Wedding update: 8 weeks to go!

Wow, 8 weeks to go. That’s gone quickly. It feels like just yesterday I started this blog and shared this post about getting engaged and sulked about not having my ring. And what a ride it’s been. I’ve never felt such a mixture of stress and excitement โ€“ it’s a lot for my little heart to take!

8 weeks to go seems to be a pretty important milestone. We had to go for our planning meeting to finalise food choices and get our final invoice, we had to chase all of our RSVPs and give an almost final number to our venue, and everything just seems that bit more real. But actually, I’m less stressed now than I have been. Mostly because the main things are done and it’s just the finished touches remaining. Dress is being altered and bridesmaids will follow soon, flowers are sorted, cake is sorted, centrepieces are almost there. I’ve even prepared our flip flop basket, baskets for the bathrooms and all of the sweets for the sweetie table are ready to be sorted into jars.

I’m also less stressed because a few weeks ago I was Maid of Honour for my best friend Zara (who married my future husband’s twin brother so we’re about to become sisters, yay!), and that really opened my eyes to everything. I’ve watched Zara flawlessly plan the entire day, and then walk down the aisle and marry the love of her life before partying the night away. It was the best day ever, and in the end none of the little stresses mattered. Not that she was stressed โ€“ she’s an inspiration โ€“ I certainly won’t managed to be as composed as she was.

Macro wedding number one helped me stop worrying about the little things and focus on the bigger picture, which is that everyone’s going to have a great time and probably won’t notice the tiny touches that I’m stressing over. As long as they see how happy me and Ryan are, I’m sure they’ll be happy themselves too. And it’s nice to know that because everyone loved Bradley and Zara’s wedding so much they’re getting extra excited about doing it all again for Macro wedding two.

All that’s left to do now is finalise a few more favours and decorations, sort out the timings for the day and decide on my hair and makeup (which is proving very difficult). I’m also looking for some jewellery and need to get a few more gifts for bridesmaids and mums. My ring needs dipping nearer the day, and we need to sort out the music situation โ€“ the first dance is causing us all sorts of headaches, and we’re still no nearer to choosing a song! (Help?)

It’s pretty mad that a year and a half of planning (and thousands of pounds too!) end in one amazing day that flies by. But I know it will be amazing and as long as I get to declare my love in front of all of my friends and family I’ll be happy.๐Ÿ™‚

Macaron towers: A quirky cake alternative for weddings

I love macarons. Like, seriously love them. I think that they are the most deliciously delightful treats ever invented. And, I’m actually not the biggest fan of cake. So when my sister Tayler suggested the idea of a macaron alternative for our wedding cake, I just couldn’t shake it. That’s why, in a few months time after we’ve said I do and cried through our speeches and eaten a yummy meal surrounded by our friends and family, we’ll be tucking in to our macaron tower instead of cutting a cake. I can’t wait.

We’ve got the wonderful Lysette from The Couture Baker making our tower, and I can’t wait to share photographs with you after the big day. Forย now though, I thought I’d share some photos of other amazing macaron towers from around the web for inspiration. I think they look brilliant and make a great cake alternative. Also, macarons are gluten free and can be dairy free if you don’t use butter icing for the fillings too.

Inspiration: Mix and Match Bridesmaids

From the very beginning, I knew I wanted mix and match bridesmaids. Little did I know how difficult it would be! I’ve now purchased all seven of the girls’ย dresses from David’s Bridal, and in total there are four shades of purple. Fingers crossed they’ll look amazing but I’m still not 100% sure I’ve got it right. We will soon find out though โ€“ there are only four months left until the big day (give or take). Eek!

But I did so much research into mix and match dresses for inspiration and ideas, so I thought I’d take this opportunity to share some of my favourite looks from around the web and hopefully inspire you too. Let me know if you’re planning to have mix and match bridesmaids, or share photos of your big day if you did.

Spring favourites: Skincare, fashion, homeware, books, blogs & TV

Spring has sprung at last, although you wouldn’t have thought it this week when I looked out of my window to see snow in the middle of April. I don’t know about you, but it’s been a busy few months! I’ve been off to work events, birthday parties, blogger meet-ups and more, and it’s been brilliant fun. I’ve also acquired a fair few new favourites that I thought I’d share with you, from books, blogs and TV to skincare, fashion and cute home items.

Beauty Brand Spotlight: Seventeen Makeup

Seventeen Obsession 2

Over the past few months, I have become a bit obsessed with Seventeen from Boots. It is so brilliantly cheap and sometimes even cheaper thanks to 3 for 2 offers or buy one get one half price deals, and the range seems to have something new in it every week. I’ve yet to come across a Seventeen product I haven’t been pleased with, so I thought I’d share my thoughts on the ones I’ve used as mini reviews.

Spotlight: Soft Kitty Clothing

Today I came across Soft Kitty Clothing and I am in love! I’m probably completely behind on this amazing gem of a shop but I was so excited that I decided to share it with you right away. It’s full of nerdy items that I desperately want to own, so I’ve put together a little wishlist and I’m sure this will grow as more items are added to the store.

Spotlight: Natural History Museum Shop

I know what you’re thinking: isn’t the Natural History Museum Shop full of mammoth-shaped pen toppers and rulers with glitter in them? Well it turns out that times have changed since I was in school, and I recently discovered that the Natural History Museum Shop has some completely gorgeous fashion and home items that I would never have expected to see there. And you don’t have to travel into London to visit it (although I’d highly recommend that you do if you ever get the chance because the Natural History Museum itself is incredible), because there’s an online store too.
